McCauley to Perform During Providence Symposium Feb. 26

Prospectus artist Robbie McCauley (More SUGAR) will perform her most recent solo work,  Jazz ‘n Class, as part of the “Art and Social Action: New Paradigms and Practices” symposium at Brown University’s Granoff Center on Friday, February 26. Jazz ’n Class explores McCauley’s relationship with her daughter, composer Jessie Montgomery, and had its world premiere in Boston last year as part of Sleeping Weezil’s BADASS festival of new works by female playwrights.

McCauley’s performance will be at 1:30 p.m., after which she will discuss “Race, Identity and Art Making” with Brian Meeks, Professor and Chair, Radical Movements, Revolution, Social and Political Change, Brown University.

Co-Sponsored by Community MusicWorks (CMW) and the Brown University Arts Initiative with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, “Art and Social Action” will feature performances and discussions about the role of art in addressing social issues of the day. It will coincide with this month’s launch of CMW Founder/Artistic Director Sebastian Ruth’s Coursera class “Music and Social Action.” The symposium schedule, list of speakers and information about registration, which is free of charge, can be accessed here.
