Exhibition of Krupczynski’s Work through April 20

Design Engagement, an exhibition highlighting the work of Prospectus artist Joseph Krupczynski, is on view through April 20 in the Gallery of the John W. Olver Design Building, 551 North Pleasant Street, UMass Amherst.  Krupczynski is an associate professor in the Department of Architecture and the Director of the Office of Civic Engagement and Service Learning (CESL) at UMass Amherst.

As a designer and public artist, Krupczynski’s work links design, art and culture through participatory art/design platforms that promote imaginative community partnerships—especially in collaboration with underrepresented communities. The exhibition highlights creative work from 2008 – 2017 that explores relational, dialogic and collaborative projects that support new social formations and civic actions. Such frameworks prompt questions on how architectural and design practices might promote social justice, community agency and create new models for public engagement.

The Design Building’s Gallery is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Krupczynski’s Prospectus project was Springfield Seed Library: Cultivating Ideas for a Healthier City.
