Cathy McLaurin culminated her 15-week residency at the Boston Center for the Arts with a tour* (of sorts) of the BCA, including its South End neighborhood, and a community exhibition. Based on research and interviews with BCA artists and staff as well as local residents, McLaurin’s tour revealed lesser known histories of a familiar place. In addition, a community display of personal objects accompanied by labels co-written by the items’ owners visually revealed more neighborhood stories. The exhibition ran through May 29, 2014.

McLaurin’s project incorporated methodology developed while working on her 2013 thesis project at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and with Alfredo Jaar  in his Public Interventions workshops sponsored by Artists in Context and Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard.
