Andrews’ Work in Liverpool Exhibition until Dec. 3
Through Saturday, December 3, 2016, six works by Prospectus artist Nancy Andrews (Loupette and the Moon + Delirious) will be on view in the exhibition, Phantom Limb, at Victoria Gallery & Museum, University of Liverpool, England. The exhibition, in fact, takes its name from one of Nancy’s exhibited works, the film. “On a Phantom Limb”; the other five Andrews works are from her drawing series, Delirious.
The exhibition, which is part of the Liverpool Biennial 2016 Fringe, contains approximately 20 works by nine artists, most of whom work from their own experiences of operations and illnesses. “It focuses on medicine and the psychological impact of the treatment process, in particular how memory physically and mentally affects illness, how pain impacts on memory and cognitive functioning and how memory impacts on pain physically (e.g. phantom pain) and mentally through trauma. It also considers the effect memory has on mental illness.”
The exhibition is a partnership project of award-winning artist Euan Gray and Dr Daniel Whistler from the University’s Centre for Health, Arts and Science.
