THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Celebration + Symposium Dedicated to Robbie McCauley’s Work
NOT TO BE MISSED! On April 6 and 7, Sleeping Weazel theater company will present a celebration and symposium dedicated to the works of performance artist, playwright and Prospectus artist Robbie McCauley at The Greene Theater, Tufte Performance and Production Center, Emerson College, 10 Boylston Place, Boston, in partnership with The Performing Arts Department of Emerson College, ArtsEmerson and Roxbury Community College/Roxbury Repertory Theater. All events are free and open to the public.
This special event and subsequent publication of a festschrift celebrating McCauley’s artistic and activist achievements for more than 40 years will center on the ethics and aesthetics of jazz, race relations, presence, storytelling, and dance that McCauley utilizes to explore and explode the divide between the past and present in American history.
Participants include Jessica Hagedorn, Daniel Alexander Jones, Carl Hancock Rux, Kym Moore, Nicky Paraiso, Pamela Sneed, Karen Finley, Cynthia Carr, Juanita Rodrigues, Paula Eliot, Magdalena Gómez, Djola Branner, Joanie Fritz Zosike, Dael Orlandersmith, Alisa Solomon, Elin Diamond, Tara Brooke Watkins, Donna Bivens, Obehi Janice, Gail Burton, Marshall Hughes, Kay Bourne, Mirta Tocci, Maureen Shea, Melia Bensussen, Charlotte Meehan, David Dower, Becky Becker, Robert Colby, Jennifer Griffiths, David Kyuman Kim and, of course, Robbie McCauley.
